Anyone render knowledgeable information assistance with this travel dilemma?
If one were desirous to visit St. Thomas or actually more so, St. Croix, what
would be the most economic, expedient, and safest way to arrive:
Option 1:
Book a seat on a Commercial Airline; hoping the flight flies and arrives without
some idiot trying to blow up his shoes, or his shorts, or his teeth, or whatever!
I’ve flown commercial airlines at least a dozen times, maybe. I have flown twice
in smaller aircraft; a small twin-engine to Nassau, and my friends Piper; he let me
“fly” for a few (too cool!) minutes. I feel much more uncomfortable on large planes.
I’ve made contact with two “private plane” people; they start with a 5-digit figure
each way; I can‘t do that; would like to be able to, but it is what it is.
Option 2:
Book a cabin and sail a Caribbean Cruise; would be jumping ship at St. Thomas to
avoid entering the ports of places I do not wish to visit, ferrying to St. Croix, then re-
(hopefully) board the liner and return to the good old continental U S of A! However,
the Travel Agent suggested I book two cruises (!!) to insure berth and return passage.
The interesting part about that is the Agent says the cabins are all ‘double-occupancy’.
I would pay for both berths! I can‘t do that; would like to be able to, but it is what it is.
Option 3:
Find someway aboard a freighter heading to St. Thomas or St. Croix, not necessarily
anything like a ’stowaway’ and just enjoy. I know I want to go but I’d feel much more
comfortable afloat on a boat, than up in the air on a dare!
My son showed me “Google Earth” (is that a piece of work?) and we scoped out a little
valley road on the north of the Island with three dwellings in the area and a “cul-de-sac”
that looks as if it would be an ideal location for the little hovel I have been designing. I
had thought to float there as an easier, SAFER way to travel; am/was hoping to book my
passage on some type of freighter-type sea voyager just to get to the Island, then ferry
to St. Croix, motor around and take pictures and get a “feel” for St. Croix.
Option 4:
Forget the trip. Do this instead. Try this for fun.
