Former Clerk Tony Ham was caught with county money in personal accounts and forced to pay it back

Yes, this is the story I was eluding to in my previous hypothetical. The Brantley Enterprise has an article about it this week and I encourage you to buy a copy to show that you support the news when it is not afraid to give you information like this.
In documents that we requested, it was discovered that over six thousand dollars of county funds was transferred to private bank accounts owned by Former Clerk of Court Tony Ham after he lost his last election.

The county eventually got attorneys involved and the money was finally paid back at the end of February of this year, just two months before election qualifying where Ham qualified to seek another term as Clerk of Court.
Now, of course, I will be demonized by supporters of the other side for bringing this information public. They do not think you need to know this stuff. They do not think it is important for the voters to know that someone who held public office and is running again mishandled public funds. I beg to differ with them. I believe you have every right to know what is happening.
Some people like to say that we are chasing ghosts or preforming witch hunts in our work. They like to say that there are no issues of corruption or cover ups or shady deals going on. This information is a prime example of how wrong they are.
Why was the public not informed of this. The County Commission and the County Manager knew about it. Do we not deserve to know that someone took public money and put it in a private bank account and then was caught and forced to pay it back, especially if that person is seeking office and another opportunity to handle public funds again?
If I am elected you can bet your rear-end that stuff like this will not happen. If I was on the board when this happened you would have known about it and I would have done everything in my power to seek criminal charges if they were warranted. If not for the audit by an outside source the missing funds would have never been discovered.
