BRUNSWICK, GA. -- Three teenagers have been arrested on armed robbery charges following a hair appointment at a local apartment complex that included two small children as hostages.
According to the Glynn County Police Department, the incident happened after 11 p.m. Saturday at the Morning Tide apartments on Altama Avenue.
The 39-year-old victim told police he drove a 16-year-old girl to the area to get her hair done by 19-year-old Jalescia Hawkins, and returned to give her a ride back home.
The victim said the girl asked for $20 to pay for the hair appointment, but he refused.
Then, he reported, Hawkins' boyfriend, 19-year-old Marquise Timms, pulled out a gun and pulled the victim's 7-year-old son out of the car, holding the gun to the boy's head as he demanded the $20.
When the victim gave Timms the $20, he said Timms then threw the child to the pavement, causing minor injuries.
The incident drew attention from others in the apartment complex, including one mother who ran outside to see what was happening.
When she did so, Timms, Hawkins and the 16-year-old ran into her apartment, where the woman's 6-year-old son was.
Police said the three wouldn't let the child leave, and officers were able to talk with the three suspect on Hawkins' cell phone.
The negotiations took about one hour, after which all three suspects surrendered and were arrested.
Timms is charged with armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping, burglary, cruelty to children and possession of tools during the commission of a crime.
