enterkom.com/enterprise/?p=68943Lawyer: Dog didn’t bite deputy who killed it admin Local lawyer Joe Segui says he has amended the lawsuit he filed on behalf of a Brunswick couple whose dog was shot and killed by a Brantley sheriff’s deputy and then beheaded with an axe by an environmental health specialist from the Brantley Health Department. “We discovered additional evidence that reveals Deputy Richard Troup was never bitten by the dog in this case,” Segui said over the weekend. “Geronimo bit the taser and left his teeth marks, but it was the dog’s paws, not his jaws, that made contact with the deputy.” Save 70% OFF Top Outdoor Brands: Columbia, Patagonia, Salomon and more! LeftLaneSports.com The official report of the incident claims the dog “viciously bit [the deputy’s] hand.” Segui says whether the deputy was scratched inadvertently or bitten viciously will make a difference in the analysis of whether the officer was justified in shooting and killing Geronimo. Segui says he does not believe the deputy had any legal basis for coming onto his clients’ property in the first place. “Clearly some of our Sheriff’s deputies think they are above the law,” he said. Segui has filed suit in federal court against Sheriff Robert Thomas, the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office, Troup, the board of commissioners, the board of health, and others on behalf of former Brantley residents Troy E. Devlin and Michelle M. Syfrit.
